> Governor Greg Abbott defended Texas’ thriving energy sector and emphasized the state’s 2024 accomplishments in expanding the state grid’s electric capacity and investing in an all-of-the-above energy strategy to establish Texas as the global center of energy.

“Texas would not be the energy capital of the world without the hard work of the men and women of the energy industry,” said Governor Abbott. “As Texas continues to experience unprecedented growth, we will remain a leader in energy while also bolstering the Texas grid to meet the growing demands of our great state. In the last twelve months, we increased dispatchable power capabilities of the grid ensuring that every Texan has access to affordable and reliable power. Working together, we will continue to strengthen our energy industry and increase capacity to ensure every home and business has the power needed to thrive in 2025 and beyond.”

Highlights of the Texas energy sector for 2024:

During fireside chats held throughout the state this year, Governor Greg Abbott praised Texas’ thriving energy sector and the vital job that the state’s energy professionals perform to maintain its status as the world’s energy capital.

Governor Abbott promoted Texas’ energy industry at the Dallas Citizens Council 2024 annual conference earlier this month, pointing out that the state leads the nation in utility-scale solar capacity and wind power generation, solidifying its position as the global energy capital. Governor Abbott also talked about Texas’ continuous attempts to become the hub of the nuclear energy supply chain so that the state grid can be powered.

Governor Abbott talked about the Texas Energy Fund at a fireside chat at the Lone Star Energy Forum in November. He also mentioned that Texas should give nuclear energy deployment top priority in order to guarantee that the state keeps using reliable energy sources to meet its expanding needs.

Governor Abbott praised Texas as the nation’s leading state for utility-scale solar and the number one state for wind-driven generation during his remarks at the Texas Electricity Policy Summit in April. The Texas system is primarily powered by fossil fuels. Governor Abbott also said that he signed legislation last year that established the Texas Energy Fund, which would offer loans and grants totaling up to $10 billion over the following four years to expand or construct new dispatchable electricity around the state.

Governor Abbott emphasized Texas’ thriving energy sector and how the state can continue to protect this vital business from federal government overreach during the NAPE Summit with Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt in February. The governor also praised the state’s thriving energy sector, which established new records in the production of natural gas, crude oil, and natural gas liquids last year.
